I just got orders. Medical support billet in the Bay Area. That means I don't have a specific job; my "job" is just to attend medical appointments and get well. Once I get better I'm sure they will find me an actual job out there, until I can get my dream job back in the afloat fleet.
I will be flying out there early next week, in order to check in with Coast Guard medical and get a referral to a civilian hospital for treatment. And...to find a place to live (I have a short list of places to check out).

Welcome back to the Golden State - the blue half of it, too.
I hope you will get better, very soon! And in the meantime, when you feel better, I will find an excuse to go up there.
Hang in there!

I am so glad we'll be near each other. And it must be such a relief to finally get orders!
I am too! and yes it is! Although I was disappointed I couldn't make our upcoming underway trip. I got kind of silently emotional when the orders hit my inbox. But I'll get back afloat again - got to earn that permanent cutterman's pin I added to the front page (requires 5 years sea time).
I'm looking at all-inclusive places in the SOMA/South Beach area. Do you know where you'll be living?
We're planning to live in Palo Alto, so it won't be too far - about 35 miles. Definitely the best we've done since high school.
You will definitely get back afloat - and now I know what that fancy symbol is on your front page! Keep your eye on the prize!
Great news on the orders, V. Now you can start focusing on the most important thing, which is getting those damn Reed-Sternberg cells the hell out of dodge.
Good luck with the housing search, and keep us posted!
V--I am happy to hear you got your orders and that you will be near Viola again.
I completely understand your feelings of being in limbo, but now you will be able to go get the treatment you need.
V--we are here for you.
I am truly sorry to hear of the circumstances of your recent transfer - my thoughts are en route to your location now; please tell me if you like them and would like me to send more...I really don't mind doing it, but sometimes it gives me nosebleeds, but you're worth it.
In all seriousness, my family was visited by a similar strain of the viscious cells, and I empathize with you more than I can say. I'm certain Bacon "tack" Shone is up to the challenge, those damnable cells don't know who they're messing with, and I wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart.
